Mother's Day
*Chime*
"Come in," Kathryn called out.
In walked Chakotay, wearing one of his dimpled smiles.
"What brings you here so early dear?" she asked him.
He walked over to her and answered "Thought I'd come by and."
before he could finish his sentence she was on her tippy toes,
kissing him.
"Coffee," he stated as they broke apart.
She shrugged and smiled at him. "Old habits die hard."
"Ah, I see," he smiled at her as she smiled back at him
again.
This is great, she thought. She had forgot how great it was to be
in love. Well.to be in love and having a relationship at the same
time. For the last several months they had both been nothing but
smiles. She wondered why she had waited so long to admit she
loved him.
"Anyway, you never come here so early," she informed
him. She then noticed that he was wearing his civvies, not his
uniform. "Why aren't you in uniform?"
"That's why I'm here so early," he told her as he
planted a light kiss on her lips.
"Hmmm." she murmured, enjoying leaning into him.
'Well being that it's Mother's." he didn't get too far with
that statement. As soon as he had uttered the word she had backed
somewhat away from him and her smile disappeared.
"It is, isn't it." she trailed, deep in thought.
Why couldn't he have just not reminded her? she wondered. She has
always wanted children but had given that dream up several years
ago. But now that he and her.No Kathryn, she told herself. Don't
ruin a good thing. Maybe someday. But that wasn't going to happen
any time soon, let alone today.
"Kathryn?" Chakotay said, putting his hand on her arm.
Coming out of her reverie she looked at him. "Sorry,' she
said.
"So," he started but stopped. "Kathryn, are you
alright?"
"I'm fine Chakotay," she told him. "It's just the
whole."
"Mother's Day," he stated simply.
"Yeah," she replied quietly.
"It's okay," he assured her.
"Now," she said with a slight smile as she put her arms
around his neck and rested her head on his chest. "What were
you saying?"
"Well," he said, wrapping his arms around her. "It
took me a while but I was able to save up enough holodeck time to
book us the holodeck for almost the whole day. And I thought that
maybe we could spend it there together."
She looked up at him and smiled. "I'd love to but I have
duty, as do you mister."
"Well." he trailed. "Being that I do assign duty
shifts."
"Chakotay!" she exclaimed, her ever present smile of
the last few months returning.
"So?" he asked.
"Well, when do we go?"
Chakotay looked at the chronometer. "In about ten minutes."
"I haven't eaten yet," she protested.
"I have it taken care of," he told her as he kissed her
on the forehead.
He then took her hand and they walked out of the room and to the
holodeck. As they arrived Chakotay said to the computer "Activate
Program Chakotay Omega One."
"Program activated," the computer stated in it's
monotonous tone.
When they entered Kathryn let out a sigh. "It's beautiful."
"I thought you'd like it," he smiled, happy he had
thought of the idea. "I just got done putting the finishing
touches on it last night."
"It's amazing Chakotay, such detail," she told him.
"And it's exactly how I remember it."
"Well the memory is all mine.though Tom did help me out a
little with the programming."
She quickly hugged him and then started to walk around in a
circle, taking everything in. This was probably one of her most
favorite places, she thought.
"Well I'm glad that you like it," he smiled at her. He
wondered if he had ever stopped smiling since he and Kathryn had
started their relationship. "If you would," he said as
he grabbed her arm and took her in the direction of the shelter.
"Really Chakotay?" she asked as she walked in, her
voice full of innuendo.
"Cute Kath," he replied. "Breakfast."
"So that's what they're calling it now at days?"
He playfully shook his head in mock annoyance as he directed her
to the table, where they're breakfast was laid out.
He pulled out her chair and she sat down.
"This is nice," she said, looking around. "Thanks."
"You're welcome," he responded with a smile.

"The sunset is lovely," Kathryn commented as she
cuddled closer to Chakotay.
"It is," he replied, hugging her tighter.
"Too bad we hadn't realized this when we were on the real
New Earth," Kathryn laughed.
"Well we know now," he told her. "And that's what
counts."
"Yes, it is."
Well if you're going to ask then do it already, Chakotay told
himself.
"You know Kathryn." he paused. This was harder than he
thought it would be. It's only a question, he told himself.
"I was."'
"Chakotay?" she asked. "It being Mother's Day
shouldn't bother you," she joked.
At that he laughed slightly, more a nervous one than a happy one.
He moved Kathryn in front of him, so he could look her in the
eyes. "Kathryn." he began again but paused.
"Yes?" she smiled. She wondered why he was acting so
weird. Suddenly an emotion crossed his face that she had never
seen before. It was a mixture of nervousness, concern, and
doubtfulness. Was he ending their relationship? she wondered.
"We've been seeing each other for a while now."
Oh God, he was. How could this be? She thought everything was
going so well.
"Chakotay."
"No Kathryn.let me finish," he pleaded with her.
"Go ahead," she told him. Maybe he wasn't ending it.
"And we loved each other long before that and we love each
other a lot now." he paused again.
He put his hand in his pocket and grabbed the ring.
"I know that it's Mother's Day and that you've always wanted
children. And maybe next year or the year after that you will be
able to celebrate this day as a mother."
Was he going to.? she wondered.
"I love you very much. Will you marry me?" he finally
finished.
She wasn't saying anything, he thought. Was this a bad sign? Did
she not want to marry him? Had he made a huge mistake?!
Slowly, a lone tear glided down her cheek. "Yes," she
whispered.
Yes! She had said yes, he told himself.
He pulled her into him and hugged her for what seemed an eternity.
After what was really only about two minutes, Kathryn looked up
at Chakotay and smiled.
"So how much longer do we have on the holodeck?" she
asked.
Perplexed, he answered "A few more hours, why?"
"Well." she smiled. "I was wondering if you
happened to program a certain bathtub into the program?"
Giving her one of his dimpled smiles, he answered, "Wouldn't
have forgotten in for the world."
At that they kissed once more and went in search of the revered
bathtub.
